Gold Grinding Places – Don’t Waste Your Time in Warcraft

I’ve got a news flash for you Walter Cronkite, finding places grind gold is out of style. Sure, I can see how you might not know this, especially if you took time off from the game, play very casually, or live under a rock and are just coming out for the first time in a long while. Let’s reminisce for a moment.

Back in the good ol’ days of Warcraft, if you wanted to go gold farming what you’d usually do is pick a random spot on the map somewhere, run up to some mobs, beat them down and take their cash and items. If you were smart, you’d do a little research and figure out which mobs dropped the best loot and then focus on those. Once they were all dead, you’d stand around twiddling your thumbs and wait for them to respawn. Then the cycle started over.

This was pretty effective. In fact, it was one of only two ways to earn any money, really (professions being the other). A few certain farming spots paid out handsomely, but they usually had a lot of competition.

Then The Burning Crusade was released, and there were plenty of new locations and new mobs to grind on. But something interesting happened: it turned out that there were alternatives to traditional gold grinding places. They introduced daily quests, there were plenty more non-repeatable quests with good rewards, they added heroic instances with great loot, they let you buy items with badges that you could sell, etc.

Wrath of the Lich King sealed the coffin. It’s extremely hard to find any mobs in the game that you can farm for a profit that exceeds what you’ll earn through other, newer methods. Flying mounts have made gathering professions much easier, daily quests are everywhere, instances are short and easy, and the list just goes on. If you’re still looking for mobs to mindlessly kill for hours on end, you’re doing it wrong.

Luckily for you, it’s pretty easy to find out about all the great new ways of gold farming. I suggest you take advantage of those who have toiled to compile the information and modernize your whole operation. Running around looking for gold grinding places is ancient history.
