Fast Gold Farming – Don’t Get Scammed in World of Warcraft

Everyone wants to have lots of gold in World of Warcraft.  Usually you’ll have to do some gold farming to accomplish that, unless you’re already crazy rich.  But that can be slow and tiring.  So people start looking for faster and easier ways to get gold, and one method that often bubbles up to the top is auction house buying and selling.
 
The long and short of it is to look for items in the auction house that are underpriced, then re-list those items for a higher price and keep the profits.  Seems easy enough.  Many people use an automated tool like Auctioneer to track auction prices and look for underpriced items.  But there’s a problem. Some unscrupulous types out there are looking to take advantage of profit seekers.
 
How is this accomplished?  First, the scammer will find a relatively obscure item that isn’t worth much.  The idea is to have something that no one has heard of so that they won’t realize it’s worthless.  Then the scammer starts listing the item on the auction house at a very high price.  They will continue to do this for days and days.  What this does is create a high average price for people that are using the tool.  Every time they scan the AH, they see the high price of the item.
 
Then one day they start listing it at half price.  It’s still majorly inflated compared to what the item costs, but it looks like it’s really cheap because the pricing history says it should be double.  So the unsuspecting guy trying to farm gold buys what he thinks is a good deal, and then relists it at a higher price.  Of course, he’ll never sell it because no one wants the item.  It only has perceived value, not real value.
